Mercedes Benz like every other manufacturer these days is constantly trying to lower its average fuel consumption by reducing the engine size.

Fortunately though they never compromise on power! So the new 5.5 liter Bi-Turbo V8 which will power most of the new AMG models is a whole lot more powerful than the outgoing 6.3 powerplant.

This engine is the latest evolution of a series of very great ones. It replaces the 6.3 which still is one of the most powerful normally aspirated V8s in the world, and that itself was the replacement for the absolutely magnificent 5.0 liter Supercharged V8.

And to mark the introduction of this new V8, Mercedes has come up with a show version of the 2011 S63 with a massive body kit and stripped-out interior called the 35 edition. Actually this car is a tribute to the 300 SEL 6.8 AMG of 1971, a car with the racing number 35 which managed to finish second at 24-hour race of Spa and made AMG famous.

Engine Specs:

AMG 5.5-litre V8 biturbo engine

400 kW (544 hp) at 5500 rpm

420 kW (571 hp) at 5500 rpm**

900 Nm at 2500-3750 rpm**

* provisional figures; ** with AMG Performance package
