Chevrolet Camaro Convertible Officially Unveiled

As the new Camaro Convertible prepares to go on stage at 2010 Los Angeles Motorshow, GM released details and specs of the car.

The drop-top Camaro will launch in February 2011 with a 312-horsepower direct injection V-6 engine delivering 29 mpg highway and a 6.2L V-8 engine producing 426 horsepower (SS model). You also have the choice of six-speed manual transmission (standard) and six-speed automatic (optional).

The car also has two LT V6 and SS V8 trims, with a base price of $30,000.

Chevrolet engineers have worked very hard on the car’s chassis so now they can claim the Camaro Convertible is as rigid as the coupe version and has better torsional stiffness than BMW 3-Series convertible. That’s a big leap for Chevy, after all making a convertible that actually handles well is a hard trick to pull.

As for the roof itself, according to GM it’s a well-tailored fabric top which has only one single latch, acoustical headliner for quietness, and a glass rear window with defogger. It goes up and down in 20 seconds.
