Rat Rod is a type of car that might not be looking as sexy as some of the high end cars – but these are known for speed and racing. Building a Rat Rod is not at all a tough thing. If you can spare some time from your busy schedule for it, you can definitely build one on your own.

Things you’ll need:

  • A car whose various parts can be removed easily
  • Parts like chassis, engine etc.
  • Power components

Steps:

Step 1: First of all you should find a good car frame. There are many options available for you – you may select a Camaro, a Dodge Dart, or even a Mustang. But you should try to give your Rat Road a good style which will be worth looking at. Try to make it as unique as you can, you might have seen a lot of Rat Rods.  Don’t try to make one similar in looks and style. Try to be a little bit creative and make a unique one. When choosing the frame, make sure that it is a light weighted one. This will help you while racing with the Rat Rod on roads. And for making it even more light weight, you can remove the materials or components from the body that you think are not that important.

Step 2: Your ultimate aim should be to make a powerful Rat Rod. So, you should pick a bigger and better engine that would fit in the chassis. That doesn’t mean that you should spend a lot of money for buying a new engine. You may use old engines which can be bought for pretty low prices. Anyways, this is just experimentation and thus there is no need to buy new parts for each and every component. Try to keep the cost as low as you can.

Step 3: Now that you have your engine and chassis ready with some other basic things, you can start the work of assembling the different components. This is something which most of the car enthusiasts love. They just want to do the assembling work and nothing else. This will include welding different parts and fitting the components like the batteries, engine, and other such parts at the right places.

Step 4: Next, you may remove extra components in the interior of the car as to make it even more light weighted. You may fix a driving seat kit inside the Rat Rod for getting comfort while driving it on the road.
