Things You Need

You will require the following things to do your job:

  • New clutch disk & pressure plate
  • pilot bearing
  • throw out bearing

Instructions

  • Jack up the vehicle and mount it safely. It is advised to avoid working under the vehicles standing on just jacks or stands for instance milk crates or blocks.
  • Now take away the driveshaft and mark the place from where you have removed it.
  • Take away all electrical cables, shift linkage, clutch linkage or hydraulics and speedometer cable.
  • Use up the transmission. Usually an empty transmission is lighter.
  • Loosen the mounting bolts between engine and transmission now. Some of them may cause difficulty in this way. These bolts may require extension or universal joints to unscrew.
  • Now, hold up the transmission on a transmission jack. You may use transmission jack that will simplify this step but if you don’t have it, you may also rent it from a nearby supplier. Floor jack can also this task but it is better to use transmission jack for this case.
  • After that unbolt the transmission mount and take away the transmission. You have to pull the transmission back ahead of making it lower as normally transmission is mounted to the engine block with locating dowels so you first have to pull it back.
  • Now lower the transmission. In this way, you may put down it under the car.
  • Do away with the clutch disk and pressure plate from the crank.

  • At the end of crank, put back the pilot bearing.
  • At the same time, replace throw bell bearing too and to do this follow the instructions from your local shop manual.
  • Now make the inside bell housing clean with break cleaner. Bolt the new flywheel to the crank. Also bolt up the clutch disk by a pilot tool. Try to bolt in a criss-cross pattern at the time when you are tightening a car wheel. You should use thread locker on all bolts.
  • Try to keep the flywheel, clutch disc or pressure plate clean. You may make use of rubber gloves and break cleaner for this reason.
  • Lift the transmission back up Provide it with jack support all the time. Avoid letting it hang by the input shaft.
  • At the time of mounting the transmission, bolt it back to the engine, , put back the transmission mount, the speedometer cable, clutch linkage, and anything else you has taken away while pulling the transmission. Now refill the transmission.
  • Now replace the driveshaft and regulate the clutch as mentioned in your shop manual. Check it twice and test drive the car.
