Renault Megane Coupe Cabriolet

Without any doubt the Renault Megane Coupe Cabriolet is a great looking car with the metal roof folded down or up. There is a downside, however, and that concerns the weight. Astonishingly this model is as much as 25% heavier than the standard hatchback, and that means that there is a big price to pay for the occasional joys of open-top motoring.

The kerb weight of the cabriolet is 1.5 tonne, a very substantial weight for the lower powered entry level engines to cope with. Even some of the more powerful engine options are a little challenged. If you are looking for performance to match the looks of this car, then your best engine option is the 1.8 litre TCe petrol engine which develops 180 bhp and will accelerate the car from 0 to 62 mph in 8.6 seconds or the 2.0 diesel with an acceleration time of 9.4 seconds.

All cabriolets suffer from a less rigid body than a similar hard top, and one of the reasons for the extra weight is additional metal added to the chassis in order to increase stiffness. Unfortunately all that extra metal does not quite do the trick in the Megane Cabriolet. The steering is less precise than the hard top and the ride on rough surfaces can be relatively severe.

In the end however these adverse comments are niggles. If you are looking for an enjoyable car to go cruising the countryside in clement weather and you just want to take things easy and chill out in reasonable comfort and style, then you will love this car. If on the other hand it is your intention to burn it down winding country lanes with the wind in your hair, then you might just find the Cope Cabriolet a little disappointing.

Finally, there is plenty of equipment including Bluetooth, Sat-Nav, keyless entry, cruise control, and more. There is even a GT body kit with 17 inch alloys sports seats and modified rear and front bumpers. You can even pick up a cheap renault megane these days, so if you like the look of them go grab yourself a bargain.
