Toyota Prius Gets External Speaker System

As the number of hybrid and electric cars increases on the roads, we are facing a new problem in terms of safety and it’s a rather ironic one.

You see these kind of vehicles make literally no noise at all, and while that’s good for the passengers inside the car it can be very dangerous for the pedestrians.Specially for children who might run into the road having not heard you coming.

Now to get round this issue Toyota is introducing a new Approaching Vehicle Audible System, which emits a synthesized sound of an electric motor via its speakers located on the outside of the car.

This system works when the Prius is operating as an electric vehicle at speeds up to approximately 25 km/h. This system might become mandatory for all gasoline-electric hybrids, plug-in hybrids, electric vehicles as well as fuel-cell hybrid vehicles.
