VW Golf has always been considered as the hatchback daddy, the finest example which defines the standards of this segment.

But it has a high price, and VW realized they are missing out on a big chunk of the market which belongs to the cheaper hatches. So they’ve come up with the Golf Twist, which is the entry-level Golf.

But that does not mean it’s a rubbish car! It comes loaded with features that offer great value for money. You get £700 of additional equipment over the Golf S on which it is based. The Twist comes with 16-inch ‘Atlanta’ alloy wheels, RCD 310 radio system with MDI multimedia connectivity and a front centre armrest to the comprehensive list of standard equipment.

As with all models in the Golf range, the Twist is fitted with a host of safety features including ABS, ESP (Electronic Stabilisation Programme) and seven airbags.

As for the engine you get the 1.4-litre petrol engine with 80 PS and 97 lbs ft of torque, mated to a six-speed manual transmission. And the price, a very reasonable £12,995.
