In 1939 Ford began to produce luxury vehicle and named it Mercury. Later on in 1945, Ford worked together with Lincoln and introduced Lincoln-Mercury Division which often seen. Mercury cars were designed with leftovers and scratch and nothing else was added in its creation and no mergers were employed in it at all.

Throughout the next three decades Mercury backed off from low class Lincoln as well as high class Ford and began to produce its own vehicle models and designs. In 70s, Mercury introduced more models of their own for instance Marquis, the Cougar, and the Turnpike Cruiser. Although in early 80s, Mercury started on to work with high class Ford once again.

These days Mercury is producing about 200k per year and share several vehicle models with Ford along with two or more models of their own as well. However these vehicles are usually re- branded from other manufacturing companies for instance Mazda and Nissan.
