Italian design and engineering firm Pininfarina has started a new long term project called Nido Development Programme, in which they are developing a modular platform, and that will be the backbone for a numb er of new hybrid and electric vehicles.

The first prototype they’ve come up with is this, the Nido city car, which is in the same size and class as smart fortwo and is powered by an all-electric system.

Nido marks Pininfarina’s 80th anniversary.

The car has a length of 2905 mm, width of 1683 mm, and height of 1507 mm and has a weight of nearly 900 kg. It’s a two-seater urban commuter.

The electric powertrain which is located above the rear wheels where the power goes, is consisting of a Synchronous with permanent magnetos electric motor and ZEBRA Z5 (Ni-NaCl) 278V batteries. It develops 30 kw and 125 Nm of peak torque.

And that’s enough for a 0 to 60 km/h sprint in 6.7 second and an electronically limited top speed of 120 km/h. The range of the vehicle on full charge is 140 km. But it also takes it up to 8 hours to recharge.
