The General Overview of the Vehicle; This is the 6th generations of the 5 Series and has received a total redesign for 2011. Alterations for this vehicle include improved fuel efficiency, longer wheelbase with the styling much more conventional than the previous model. The 5 Series comes available in 3 variations, the 528i, 535i and the 550i. The 5 Series has to compete against the likes of the Infiniti M, Mercedes-Benz E-Class and the Audi A6. The Exterior of the BMW 5 Series; The 5 Series wheelbase has been increased by 3 inches in length, which is shared with the 7 Series. 17 inch alloy wheels are standard on the 528i model whist 18 inch alloy wheels are included with both the 535i and 550i models. An optional “Sport Package” incorporates summer performance tires and large wheels. Other features of note on the exterior are the adaptive xenon headlights; standard for the 535i and 550i models and optional for the 528i model. LED tail lights have been incorporated on this vehicle and the kidney grille, which is basically a trademark of this vehicle situates lower down whist leaning forward more than the previous models. The Interior of the BMW 5 Series; The 5 Series borrow a lot of interior designs from the 7 Series such as the climate control display now utilizes the “Black Panel Technology”. Available as standard is the basic iDrive system with 7 inch display, this controls the audio as well as various other settings. An optional extra is the navigation system incorporated within the iDrive system, the display is also increased to 10.2 inch screen. Other standard features include a power telescopic/tilting steering column and a 10 way power front seat. Power Features of the BMW 5 Series; All 3 versions utilize a brand new 8 speed automatic transmission, whilst a 6 speed manual transmission is also available for the 535i and 550i models.
  • The 528i model is incorporated with a 3.0 liter 6 cylinder engine producing 240 horsepower.
  • The 535i model is incorporated with a turbocharged 3.0 liter 6 cylinder engine producing 300 horsepower.
  • The 550i model is incorporated with a V8 twin-turbo, 4.4 liter 6 cylinder engine producing an impressive 400 horsepower.
Other features included with the “Sport Package” are the “Adaptive Drive” system, this includes adaptive suspension, customizable drive-train and suspension settings and the “Active Roll Stabilization”. Optional features include adaptive cruise control and “Active Steering”, which enables for better handling at higher speeds whilst easier steering at lower speeds. Safety Features of the BMW 5 Series; Available as standard for all versions of the 5 Series are the side impact airbags, side curtain airbags, anti-lock brakes, electronic stability system, and active head restraints. A few extras are optional such as the lane departure and blind spot warning systems, and collision warning system integrated within the adaptive cruise control.
