Toyota officially announced that the electric version of the iQ, first appeared as the FT-EV concept and now known as the iQ EV, will go on sale in America as soon as 2012.

Next year they will run a limited trial programme in Europe in 2011,to asses the production version capabilities in the real world.

Toyota, who is rapidly expanding its lineup of electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles, will also introduce the iQ EV in Europe, Japan and China. The final design of the car is yet to be revealed.

Toyota plans to launch 11 hybrid vehicles by the end of 2012, including both all-new and re-designed models. It has also confirmed that Prius Plug-in Hybrid, currently undergoing a demonstration programme in London and other worldwide locations, will go on sale in Europe, Japan and the USA from early 2012. Toyota is expecting to sell around 50,000 cars a year, the majority in its home market.
