Brabus Mercedes E-Class Coupe Unveiled
The Brabus car was released at the Geneva Auto Show based on the Mercedes E-Class Coupe, having a mighty V12 motor under the bonnet. It is being called Brabus E V12 Coupe, but more than engine modifications was done.
The external features of Mercedes coupe includes side skirts, carbon fiber body kit consisting of a new front spoiler, air vents and rear diffuser. Several other exterior features are a new adjustable coil over suspension kit, LED daytime running lights and a high performance braking system under the 19 inch wheels.
Mercedes V12 Coupe equipped with Brabus SV12 R bi-turbo engine can be purchased for a price of 478,000 euros. It puts down 788 hp with a maximum torque of 1,420 Nm on the dyno. It has an acceleration of 100 km/h in only 3.7 seconds. It can also increase up to 200 km/h in 9.9 seconds for speed crazy drivers and an insane reach the top speed of 350 km/h. In fact it has an incredible speed but care should be taken to avoid accidents.
These numbers were gained because of the addition of bored out cylinders, a new crankshaft, upgraded electronics and larger pistons from the German Brabus technology. The Mercedes E-class also has a custom version of the 5-speed automatic transmission available as a standard of mew E models of Mercedes. Some additional aftermarket parts installed from Brabus are a stainless steel exhaust system, new air intake kit and limited slip differential to the rear wheel drive system.
Tips & Techniques for Drag Racing
The reaction time of a driver can make a big difference in just about a quarter of mile race. Just as the lights turn green, it usually takes around 1.5 to 2 seconds for Torque Car members to get their car moving off the line.
Light changes can be probably judged after a few runs and precious time for the launch can be cut down. For keeping the reaction time sharp, alcoholic drinks and heavy or greasy food should be avoided and plenty of sleep should be taken in the earlier night.
Only water should be taken, stimulants can even slowdown the reaction time of a driver. The most preferred food to be eaten would be pasta as it gives a slow release of energy without giving a lazy feeling. Practice should be done as much as possible as it makes a one perfect. The launch is most likely the single biggest factor that effects the time in drag racing apart from the power of the car, therefore launch techniques should be practiced again and again.’

The seat has to be adjusted so the driver will not have to stretch for the pedals and the steering wheel can be gripped without leaning forward. Reaction time can be reduced because of bad posture. It should be ensured that the harness is secured and is not restrictive, concentration is to given on the track ahead rather than the other driver.
As the duration of the drag racing is concerned, the aim is to keep the engine in the power band and traction has to be maintained. If one tests the car on a rolling road, the result graph will show the position of the power band. The power for most cars will start to fail again at about 1000 to 2000 rpm before red line, this is the logical place for changing the gear.
Gear changes require valuable time, some drivers place their foot on the accelerator while changing the gear for keeping the revs up. However, this technique will not work on cars which put down a lot of power as wheel-spin will just be introduced, rather one should try to match the engine revs with the speed of the wheels and drive train during every gear change.
A fast power gear change technique can be found that will work well. Every car is a little bit different. Some cars need a minimum dip of the clutch if their biting point is high while others need the clutch pedal for travelling the full distance.
The technique of pulling the car out of the gear and depressing the clutch just before selecting the next gear works very well. It should be remembered that the revs have to be adjusted if the car is producing more power as a loss of traction can easily waste precious time.
The traction needs to be balanced with the amount with the amount of unleashed power. There are some drag racers who rev high for getting a wheel spin and then pull back the throttle as they launch and when the tires bite, they again put on the power.
A vey powerful car needs a careful control of the accelerator and reign in some of the tendency for wheel spin.
4 wheel drive cars have a lot of traction off the line but a 4 wheel drive can be broken down if too much is asked, therefore the clutch can be used to control the quantity of power that is being put down.
2 wheel drive cars always suffer from wheel spin, four wheel drive more then RWD so it has to be determined how much has to be allowed for the best possible launch. Riding the clutch during launch will help in controlling the wheel-spin and the driver will finally be able to feel the point of most grip as the accelerator pedals and clutch are feathered. The clutch should be used more than the accelerator during launch for controlling the power that goes to the tires because the engine should be in its power board.
The pressures of the manufacturers are designed for giving equal pressure across the whole tread. The reduction in pressure will allow the tire to cup and reduce the grip in the center of the tire. It is good to begin with recommended pressures and carry out a standing start and spinning the tires.
The tire marks have to be checked, if they are of even shade on the entire width of tire then they have to be well left alone. If the marks in the center are darker, the pressure has to be reduced slightly. It is just a trial and error for getting an even deposit of rubber on the road on the whole width of tread and not just reducing the pressures.
The focus should be on area beyond the finish line. There are a lot of drivers who easy off just before the finish line.
Fitting in larger pedals will provide more range for control and addition of a fast shift gear level will make the gear changes faster. However, the margin of error will be reduced with the tighter and shorter throw.
When running 14 seconds or less, the aerodynamic improvements to the car should be observed. Smaller models can be used as a replacement for wing mirrors or they can be removed. For improving the flow of air under the car, an engine sump shield can also be fitted.
Car Rust Treatment and Removal Tips
The cancer of metal version is casually known as rust. When it affects, it starts to eat more and more of the metal. Moisture and oxygen is needed by rust to do its work. When paint is coated on the metal, oxygen cannot penetrate there the metal will be protected. Yet a stone chip is all it takes to start the process.
Primarily, the surface of the metal will get bubbled up by the metal slowly eating deeper and deeper. The earlier it is caught, the better it will be.
A rust spot need a thorough treatment.
1. The rust spot has to be sanded until the bare metal is visible.
2. The area has to be covered with a rust inhibitor which acts like an undercoat for the next layers.
3. The depression caused by filler sanding has to be filled. If the depression is not very big then a thicker coat of paint is not needed.
4. The area should be covered with paint and then some clear coat and cutting paste can be used for finishing.
When the nature of the rust is little more serious, like on the bottom and wings of doors then the only available real option is to cut off the damaged metal and weld a new one. It is normally cheap to replace doors from the breakers yard and have it repainted that is more convenient as compared to a repair. The replacement and painting of front wings is also easy. Anything on the structural areas and rear wing with rust will surely need a new panel welding in for properly fixing it.
One has to be sure to completely cut away the rust and then cover the area using rust inhibitor for preventing further damage from occurring while working on the area.
The prevention of rust is easier than repairing. Wax coating after every six months is the most evident way to guard against surface rust.
Additionally, there are some corrosion inhibitors in the market which are generally used for spraying under the vehicle and behind the panels. This is recommended by Torque Cars which are used in some thin coats. Extra care must be taken for preventing the drain holes in the bottom of the panels getting blocked.
A fine idea is to place a piece of sharp wire through every drain hole for ensuring that they are open. The last that is to be done is to allow water to gather inside the door or panel.
Several leaks can be a sign of rust, they are normally caused by torn rubber seals but the area must be completely checked for any rusts. One irritating area to have rust is around the windscreen. There are cars that have went through windscreen replacement requiring wide work on the frames because of rust caused by water ingression.
How to Clean a Car’s Dashboard
People appear to spend more time in cleaning the exterior of the car rather than the interior. The possible fact is that other people are more expected to see the exterior of the car.
When Torque Cars started talking with its members, it was discovered that most of the people feel difficult to clean the interior of the car mainly the dashboard.
First of all, caution must be taken regarding the use of dash polishes. They often contain a silicone element that leaves a sticky deposit and although this appears shiny but it in fact becomes a magnet for grime and dirt.

It is recommended to use sprays and interior dash cleaners of good quality as they will not compromise the maintenance but Torque Cars found out that same thing can be done with household items and a little grease.
The shine from a well reflective dash during bright sunlit days can be serious risk for driving.
The items needed for cleaning the dashboard are a soft sponge, little water preferably from a pre boiled kettle, little CD cleaning liquid and a fiber cloth. A cotton bud will also be helpful in cleaning.
First, the interior of the car has to be vacuumed for removing the particles that most likely stay in the air. The last thing that should be cleaned is the dash because if the dripped cleaner dislodges on the dash while cleaning the windscreen, then the das would have to be cleaned again.
The soft sponge has to be used after making it damp with water. This will clean most of the grime and dirt from the surface of the dashboard.
IPA Isopropyl Alcohol is present in CD cleaner solution which is a mild solvent that will take out stubborn stains without affecting the condition of the plastic. IPA fluid is also useful in removing the remains of previous dash cleaners and polish.
The next step is to get into the corners. A cotton bud is good to use on light moistened for getting into the hard to reach the corners. The CD cleaning fluid can be used again for removing hard stains.
Final touches can be given with microfiber cloth, a felt pad is also useful in giving a good finish. It is better not to use polish at the end because it will make cleaning harder next time.
If the dash has a matt finish, then it should not be rubbed very hard as it is possible to have a smooth patch into the finish.
How Risk is Calculated by Insurance Companies
The question is how the insurance companies calculate their premiums and why their results differ so much. When we first look at the history of the insurance, groups of ship owners are seen together. They faced the problem of bankruptcy if their ship sunk or their cargo was lost.
They worked out a plan of sharing the risk between them by each agreeing to pay an amount of loss. If a there were 100 ship owners and the average loss for example was £10,000, they would each pay £100 over I year into the fund for covering the loss. It would be better to guarantee to lose £100 than risking losing an amount of £10,000.
Nowadays, insurance is a bit more difficult but the basic principles of risk sharing are still present. Those people who calculate risk behind the scene are known as underwriters and it’s their job to calculate who are most likely to claim.

Each insurer considers at their own statistics of losses for calculating the future risk. The points taken into account are experience, age and use of vehicle. They will also inspect the area to determine the accident, theft rate and repair costs.
After that, an insurer will calculate their ideal risk rate, the driver offers them the most profitable amount and calculates a rate to take of each of these drivers. Most of the insurers deter what they perceive as bad risks with high premiums.
One factor is the amount paid by an insurer. If the insurer tries to cover up the work at the cost of cheap repairs and lower vehicle assessments they will be able to give low premiums. This is an important factor when choosing insurance and matches true with the saying of ‘you get what you pay for’
The Torque Cars recommend their members to get different quotations from variety of insurers. The broker and direct insurer have to be included and a price comparison site can be visited to check any offers. If there are special insurance requirements like business use or a modified car, then a specialist insurer will be needed and a broker has to be consulted.
Brokers normally charge a commission of 10% to 20% but they normally issue the policy documents from their office on the behalf of the insurer this compares favorably with administrative costs of direct insurers.
The broker can also give help if a claim is made. This can raise the insurer costs as they have to pay more and this is the reason why insurers prefer that they should be directly visited.
A good broker has the quality to negotiate special rates from an insurer and has the ability to put leverage on the insurer for providing a good service.
For getting cheaper insurance, an appealing risk has to be shown. A higher proportion of claim can be agreed to pay. An alarm can be fitted, advanced driving lessons can be taken, mileage or vehicle use should be limited.
After that, an insurer that has the best experience with driver group has to be selected. It should be remembered that cheaper is not always better, if a claim is made then the cutting corners may be regretted. Range of quotes has to be checked and too expensive and cheap has to be avoided.
